About Me
Hi! I'm Kate De Groote and I'm so excited to be running for IOP Communications Director. Scroll down to learn a little about me and my experience as well as why I'm running.

Hi, I'm Kate.
I'm a sophomore studying Government with a secondary in film, originally from Salt Lake City, Utah. I am very passionate about public service, specifically criminal justice reform, and I hope to work in legal advocacy and defense one day. I also love to create and make videos, and you can often find me filming random parts of my day I find beautiful.
I'm running for communications director because it combines my love of the IOP and of government with my love of social media, graphic design, and film. I have experience in communications under the Fellows Program and I loved my experience, so I decided I wanted to do the same thing on a larger scale.
During my time here, the IOP has become somewhat of a second home. It is a place where I can both engage in complex conversations, fun dinners, and transformative volunteering, and I want to share it with as many students as I can. I want to use my time, if elected, to create a space where everyone feels welcome and valued in the same way that I do. I believe in the potential of the IOP and I want to help realize it.
My Experience
During my time at the IOP, I have participated in many different programs.
Currently, I am the communication director for the Fellows and Study Groups Program, wherein I work closely with the current IOP Comms Director.
I am also the membership director for the Policy Program, where I plan events, get speakers, and encourage cross-team bonding.
I am also a volunteer with the Harvard Votes Challenge and a member of the Fellows Search Committee.
In the past, I have been a liaison for fellow Janet Hook (seen right) and a team lead for the Criminal Justice/Econ policy team. I have also been a member of the Campaigns and Advocacy Program.

Outside of the IOP, I have been a communications intern for the Pioneer Park Coalition and worked on the communications team of "Ben McAdams for Congress". I have also been a policy intern for the Center for Court Innovation, through which I received a summer stipend at the IOP.

I hope to bring this experience in many different programs of the IOP to my role as communications director in order to make everyone feel both welcome and like their work is valued here.
